Lecture Text

This session covers the remainder of the Creed:

It then enters into the second part of the Catechism covering concepts like:

  1.  Sacramental economy

  2.  Liturgy

  3.  The nature of sacraments

The Body of Christ is no longer constrained by the power of death and the living here, on their way to entering heaven, and those already in heaven form the singular body of Christ the Church. There is hardly a more fundamental component, other than love, than forgiveness which is a heroic expression of love. We have earned the grave and hell and it to the full even to this day man commits unspeakable acts and God and the Church always stand ready to forgive. This sort of commitment is not possible without a particular kind of love. God is love and He is infinite so perhaps it is no tall order for Him. However, Christ and His Mother are both Him and free of worldly stains and both humans forgive with human hearts which experience both the full weight of acts committed and the understanding and compassion forgiveness requires. Of course, it must be our will which must accept such mercies through repentance. Moreover, Mary’s experience is different than Christ’s insofar as she is not God but higher than us since she is the only non-divine human to experience man’s original date and live perpetually in it. Her and the saint form a communion of cheerleaders and intercessors for us. "The whole liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Eucharistic sacrifice and the sacraments" CCC 1113 Liturgy literally means "work of the People" which makes sense with the quote "It is the whole community, the Body of Christ united with its Head, that celebrates" CCC 1140. It is the people only insofar as it is the full body of Christ which completes the liturgy. These sacraments are from Christ Himself, are properly of/for the Church, resulting from and increasing faith, helping us actualize our salvation even while on Earth, and allow us to enter into eternal life partially now and fully after death. Knowledge of each sacrament includes: Who celebrates the liturgy?, How is the liturgy celebrated?, When is the liturgy celebrated?, Where is the liturgy celebrated? How it fits into Christ's mission, is prefigured in a way in the Old Testament
